COVID-19: BBNaija Season 5 Housemates In Quarantine

The organizers of the Big Brother Naija reality TV show, better known as BBNaija have disclosed that all potential housemates for this year edition are currently in quarantine.

The announcement is coming barely 16 days to the commencement of the Season 5 edition of the reality show, Naija News understands.

The organizers had earlier announced that the 2020 edition of the reality show will kickstart on Sunday, July 19 amid the Coronavirus pandemic.

During a virtual meeting on Thursday, July 2, the organizers disclosed that they were in talks with the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, over the live TV show to ensure compliance with the COVID-19 rules and regulations and as well the safety of housemates and the production crew.

A statement from the organizers to confirm their readiness to go on with the reality show noted that “potential housemates are currently in quarantine ahead of the July 19 premiere”.

“They will be monitored whilst in quarantine until they are deemed fit health-wise. Anyone that shows signs of ill health, will as expected not be a part of the show,” the statement added.

Speaking on the preparation, Channel Director, Africa Magic, Wangi Mba-Uzoukwu said that the Big Brother House has since been disinfected and won’t be accessible by any individual till the show kickstarts.

She further noted that even before the COVID-19 pandemic, housemates usually go through scrutiny and health checks before they are allowed into the house.

“The Big Brother show lends itself to a certain level of quarantine, seamlessly integrating into the COVID-19 guidelines,” said Mba-Uzoukwu.

Meanwhile, celebrity stylist and serial entrepreneur, Toyin Lawani has caused a fresh stir on social media over her recent Instagram post, in which she said men will wash plates, Naija News reports.
