Goodluck Jonathan Reacts To Okonjo-Iweala's New Appointment

Former president of Nigeria under the umbrella of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Goodluck Ebele Jonathan after his arrival in Mali to grace the sub-regional body’s mediation mission in the West African country said he is optimistic that their mission will yield positive results.

The political leader who graces the gathering as a special envoy to lead mission arrived at the eight-largest country in West Africa on Wednesday evening, Naija News understands.

The former president confirmed his arrival today on his official Twitter account, hours after his arrival on Wednesday, July 15.

He tweeted, “I arrived in Bamako Wednesday evening with my delegation to begin my assignment as leader of @ecowas_cedeao peace mission to Mali. I’m optimistic that our mission will yield positive results. Our message of peace and progress has so far been well received by stakeholders.”

It was reported earlier that Jonathan was appointed by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) as a special envoy to lead the sub-regional body’s mediation mission in Mali.

Naija News understands that the political figure is expected to hold a dialogue with all principal stakeholders in the West African country.

The event will also be graced by incumbent President of Mali, Ibrahim Boubacar Keita, religious organisations, civil society and as well opposition leaders, towards addressing socio-political challenges the country.

Meanwhile, Naija News reported earlier that the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, campaigned for “one Nigeria” under former President  Goodluck Jonathan’s government instead of the Republic of Biafra.
