IGP Adamu Explains His Position On Magu’s Bail Request

Breaking: DSS Arrests EFCC Chairman, Ibrahim Magu

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Mohammed Adamu has revealed his stand on the bail request by the suspended Chairman of the Nigeria anti-graft agency, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ibrahim Magu.

Speaking on Monday, July 13 in an interview with newsmen, Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), Frank Mba, said Magu’s probe is been handled by a Federal Government panel and hence the IGP has not such power to grant him freedom.

According to Mba, every enquiry regarding the former EFCC boss should be directed to the government’s panel and not anyone else.

“It is a probe by the Federal Government panel. Therefore, all enquiries concerning the probe or relating to actions incidental to the probe should be directed to the panel that is handling the probe,” Mba said.

Naija News recalls that Magu had through his legal representative, Oluwatosin Ojaomo, a few days ago following his arrest and suspension, approved by President Muhammadu Buhari, pleaded with the Police IG to release him on bail.

Ojaomo requested that the Police IG should grant his client bail base on self recognizance. Magu’s hope was, however, dashed as Adamu stated his position on the probe.

In other news, the Federal Government of Nigeria in a bid to protect its citizens said travel restriction would be placed on some countries into Nigeria.
