The former Governor of Oyo State, Abiola Ajimobi has reportedly died at the age of 70.
Media personality, Suleiman Aledeh had tweeted on Thursday evening that the former governor was dead. He tweeted “Former Oyo State Governor Abiola Ajimobi has died!”
An investigative journalist, Fisayo Soyombo also tweeted “A source who has never failed me in six years of knowing him has just confirmed to me the death, in Lagos today, of Abiola Ajimobi, former Governor of Oyo State, due to underlying health conditions worsened by the Coronavirus. May his soul rest in peace.”
Ajimobi who was recently appointed as the Acting National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress by the National Working Committee of the party had been down with Coronavirus complications.
The former lawmaker fell ill after testing positive to Coronavirus and was reported to be in a critical condition before the time of his death.
He ruled Oyo State for eight years before he was appointed by Adams Oshiomhole as the Deputy National Chairman (South-West) of APC.
Ajimobi was a former Managing director at the National Oil and Chemical Marketing Company, a subsidiary of Shell Petroleum Company.
Meanwhile, in a twist of event, Social Media personality, Kemi Olunloyo also claimed that the former governor is still alive, she tweeted: “I was inundated by messages that fmr Governor @AAAjimobi Ajimobi has DIED in Lagos! I could not get info from Oyo lawmakers, elites, media. I have finally confirmed and spoke to the family.”
Renowned journalist, Dele Momodu also countered the news, he described is a fake news ” Fake News! Abiola Ajimobi is Not Dead, says family source” He tweeted.
