The embattled Chief Whip of the Nigerian Senate, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, resumed his legislative duties at the nation’s parliament after spending not less than five months at Kuje correctional facility today, June 9, 2020.
The former Abia State governor while walking into the parliament on Tuesday morning was seen exchanging pleasantries with legislative staff, security operatives, and colleagues in the video obtained by Naija News.
Naija News recalls that the Nigeria Senate has said it would not declare the seat of its Chief Whip vacant despite his conviction by a Federal High Court.
Recall that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, (EFCC), had charged Kalu with N7.65billion fraud while in office as the Abia State governor between 1999 and 2007.
Kalu was, however, released from the Kuje correctional centre a few days ago following verdict by a seven-man panel of the Justices of the Supreme court which nullified judgment delivered by Justice Mohammed Idris of the Federal high court.
